A Home paternity test is a DNA testing option that helps determine a biological relationship between an alleged father and child for peace of mind purposes. Please note, this DNA testing option can not be used for legal purposes.

How does Home DNA Testing work?

Step 1.

Contact IDTO to purchase a home paternity test kit by calling 888-204-0593.

Step 2.

After your test kit purchase. IDTO will ship you a kit to your home within 24hrs of purchase. You will receive an email confirmation and tracking details for your envelope.

Step 3.

Upon receipt of your DNA test kit please read and follow the enclosed instructions. Collect your samples by using the enclosed buccal cotton swabs, Complete the chain of custody form and DNA samples when collected and place them into the prepaid envelope you received with your kit. Then ship the prepaid envelope back to the lab via (FedEx or UPS).

Step 4.

Upon receipt of your DNA samples by the lab. The turnaround time for your result is 2 to 3 business days. When your result is complete an IDTO specialist will contact you by phone with a status update of your result. A copy of your result will then be mailed out to your home.

Please Note:

Home DNA Paternity test kit option is not an option that New York State residents can use. Due to the New York State Department of Health guidelines. The only option that can be used for New Yorkers is the Legal Paternity Testing option.

No. The chain of custody form will require the names of the participants whether the names are your real names or pseudo name. Please note, the names written on the chain of custody form will be displayed on your result. It is important that you keep that in mind when deciding to use another name other than your birth name.

Both DNA sample collection options have similar accuracy. The buccal swab method is painless, unlike the blood sample collection process.

The DNA collection kit you will receive will have enclosed buccal swabs to collect your genetic samples to be used inside your mouth and is brushed against your cheek.

 

The difference between a legal paternity test and a home DNA test is how you can use the result. A legal DNA paternity test result can be for any legal purpose. While an At-Home DNA Test can only be used for informational purposes.
