DNA test while pregnant
Can I perform a paternity test while being pregnant?
Yes. A paternity test can be performed while a mother is pregnant. There are two options in the market that are currently available. One is an invasive prenatal paternity test. This prenatal testing option has risks and can only be performed if the mother’s OBGYN is involved.
When can a mother use an invasive prenatal paternity test? Testing can be performed from the 10th week to the 12th week of pregnancy. The process that can be performed is known as Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS). If the mother is in her 15th to 20th week of pregnancy. The test that can be performed during this period is known as Amniocentesis. It should be noted that both testing options can not be performed for paternity testing reasons alone. If the mother’s OBGYN suggests to the mother that either a CVS or an Amniocentesis may be required. It is at this time a paternity test can be performed.
What is a Chorionic Villus Sampling?

What is a Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity Test (NIPP)?
A Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity Test is a test that does not require a mother’s OBGYN to be involved with the testing process. How will the samples be collected? The mother’s sample will be collected by way of a blood draw. The father’s samples will be collected by way of a buccal swab.
