The Paternity Uncertainty Hypothesis
The paternity hypothesis is an age-old concept that has been around for many years. Paternal Uncertainty refers to a concept that describes how a father doubts his biological relatedness with a child. This occurs because the presumed father in most instances does not want to raise another man’s offspring.
In some tribal cultures, the upbringing of a child is done by the men of that community. What this means is, whether the man is the biological father or the non-biological father. Both men or multiple men participate in the child’s upbringing.
What are some of the effects of this paternal doubt?
When the paternity of a child is uncertain. It can cause a chain reaction of emotions that will affect how much investment grandparents or the alleged father’s parents will provide towards the alleged grandchild or grandchildren.
The parents of the mother are more likely to provide an investment towards their daughter’s child or children because there is no doubt that the child is biologically related to the mother.
Paternity Certainty
Paternity certainty is the opposite of paternal uncertainty. Mothers oftentimes are the ones who know who the biological father of her child is. In modern times, some mothers may choose a responsible man and convince him he is the biological father of her child when another man who she physically desires donated his sperm to conceive a child.
Can a DNA test help with paternity establishment?
Yes. Paternity testing is considered the most effective method to help determine the paternity of a child. The results from the type of DNA test can be used as evidence in Family Court to prove or disprove paternity.
