We recommend having the known parent (mother or father) if available to participate in the testing process. Adding the known parent helps to increase the accuracy of a Grandparent DNA Test.
Can I perform a Home Grandparent DNA Test in New York?
No. According to the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) guidelines all DNA Testing services provided requires a prescription referral be acquired, a chain of custody be established and samples must be collected by an unbiased third party collector for New York State residents.
Please note, non-residents of NYS are not required to produce a prescription referral from a New York State licensed doctor if they perform the sample collection in the state of New York. What is required is that you walk with your state’s identification.

Yes. A legal DNA grandparent test can be used for immigration purpose when the petitioner receives a request for evidence (RFE) letter from a U.S. embassy or USCIS. Performing a legal DNA test without an RFE is not recommended.
