How long do sibling DNA test results take?
Results typically arrive within 2 to 3 business days after our AABB‑accredited laboratory receives all DNA samples. Extended testing may occur when the samples submitted have a low concentration of DNA.
Same-day testing is available for non-legal sibling DNA tests. Please note this testing option does not apply to New York State residents.
What conditions may affect result turnaround times?
Below is list of possible things that can occur that could affect the turnaround time of your DNA results.
1. Shipping delays of your DNA samples to the laboratory.
2. Submission of an expired identification
3. Incomplete chain of custody by embassy official or local DNA sample collector
4. Low concentration of DNA on a sample that may require extended testing to produce a complete profile.
Regardless, of the reason our clients will be notified of the situation immediately. Depending on the situation and the client’s response results may take an additional day to be produced.
What is a Sibling DNA Test and why does it matter?
A sibling DNA test determines the probability that two or more people share a biological parent. The laboratory evaluates 18 to 22 genetic markers to produce a statistical sibling probability that supports family, medical, immigration, or legal needs.
When is a Sibling DNA Test Commonly Performed?
Siblingship testing is commonly performed when a common parent in question is unavailable to perform a direct parent-child DNA Test . This testing option can be performed for legal and peace of mind reasons . It is normally performed when a paternity test cannot be performed to determine paternity . Reasons to perform a sibling test include:
- Paternity establishment for social security benefits when the father is deceased .
- Inheritance claims .
- Immigration visa acquisition .
- Peace of mind .
A Sibling DNA test can be an option to confirm a biological relationship with someone you believe to be your sibling, based on Ancestry research . The test itself is not an ancestry test . Ancestry testing explores ancestral lines and cultural lineages, with results primarily for entertainment or informational purposes, and cannot be used legally . DNA Relationship Testing, conversely, determines if individuals are biologically related, and its legal version can be used for legal purposes .
