Maternity Testing and Paternity Testing Differences

Yes. Both testing options can be utilized for legal purposes. By establishing a chain of custody, DNA samples must be collected by an unbiased third-party DNA collector, and all DNA samples will be tested and analyzed by our partner, AABB Accredited Laboratory.

Can a maternity and a paternity test be performed at home?

Both tests can be performed in the comfort of your home by purchasing an at-home maternity test kit or an at-home paternity test kit.

Please keep in mind that at-home DNA tests are intended for informational purposes only and do not require a chain of custody. As a result, the results cannot be used for any legal purpose.

How are DNA samples collected?

All DNA samples collected for maternity and paternity testing services are obtained using a non-invasive cheek swab. A minimum of two sterile cotton swabs are used for each participant. One swab is gently brushed against the inside of the left cheek and gum to collect DNA cells.

A second swab is then used on the inside of the right cheek and gum for approximately 30 seconds. After collection, the swabs are placed in a labeled envelope and sent to the laboratory for analysis.
